WHAT IS MAPPING??? IS IT IMPORTANT???
The Rubicon Atlas mapping program is the heart of YTC curriculum. By entering all subjects in the mapping format, by class, one is able to see where there is repetition and/or where subject areas are void of the curriculum standards information which is to be taught at certain grade levels.
ND Curriculum addresses standards and achievement that students are to meet. The mapping process allows teachers to see if and how they are meeting those particular standards.
Mapping is time well spent to insure that the YTC students are proficient in all subject areas.
Mapping aligns curriculum to state standards which is what students will be expected to know for state testing. YTC faculty are in the third year of mapping and attended a January 19, 2004 YTC mapping inservice with trainers from Atlas Rubicon to learn advanced mapping techniques.
ND English language arts and math standards will be revisited this fall as they are written grade by grade.
This page is under construction and you are encouraged to keep checking on it's advancement. I welcome constructive criticism from YTC patrons. My e-mail address is : john.pretzer@sendit.nodak.edu
School Improvement Grant Up-date
November 8, 2004
LaDean S. Moen YTC Coordinator
Transition time best describes what is happening in year two of the three year School Improvement Grant.
The main goal has not changed: To improve all students’ achievement scores in math and English Language Arts.
The three supporting goals have been redefined:
1.Curriculum Mapping/Unpacking Benchmarks
2.Analyzing state assessments (making logical sense of data) as a teaching staff
3.Alternate assessment/s to validate findings of state assessments to present us with early indicators/areas to focus on
$92,000. has been granted for year two of the grant and at this time the coordinator and administrators are meeting with external resources which are needed to carry out the grant process. The external sources must have available the coordinating research based criteria to assist the YTC schools during the process. The consultant/s are aware of the goals set forth in the original grant and they offer their available services to prepare the YTC schools to meet those goals.
